Speaker Program
Based on the Post's Country Plan Project requests, PD Addis Ababa is extensively involved in program activities described below.
U.S. Speakers - To lecture, conduct seminars/workshops and round table discussions under the auspices of PD. U.S. Speakers are experts in their field, drawn from government, academic, the media, business community, organizations, etc., who address issues defined by world wide themes and the posts. Grantees are selected by Washington subject to Post approval, but Post or host institutions may suggest candidates.
Academic Specialist - A short-term (two to six week) program to provide American experts as consultants, trainers and conference participants for foreign institutions such as universities, libraries, museums, ministries of education, information and culture, mass media etc. Consultants cover a wide range of subject areas, but the majority of programs are in English teaching, American studies, law, communications and general education. Post may request Academic Specialists at any time during the fiscal year. Any academic and professional field is eligible.
Professionals-in-Residence - are specialists recruited to spend longer periods of time at the post where they serve as advisors to non-academic institutions, and consultants and expert resources for the post. Length of assignments range from two weeks to several months, as required. Professionals-in-Residence have served as advisors to media outlets, government ministries, academics, parliaments and other organizations promoting the development of democratic institutions.
